Women in PGMs Networking Virtual Event

The Theme for the event is “Responsible PGM Mining: How to ensure a sustainable future?” and will focus on the increasing importance of ESG in PGM mining across the value chain and the various initiatives that companies are implementing to address this.

This will be followed by a breakout session facilitated by the panellists to allow members to contribute to the discussion and how women can further the ESG objectives of their companies.

Keynote Speakers

Thabisile Phumo
Senior Vice President and Head of Stakeholder Relations at Sibanye Stillwater

Thabisile has a career spanning two decades in the public and private sector specialising in corporate communications, social development, media relations, stakeholder engagement, curriculum development and training. She has served in various roles in communications and public relations at Anglo American Platinum, United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, University of South Africa, Centre for Public Relations and Communications and the Commission for Gender Equality. She holds qualifications in Corporate Communications, Public Relations Management, Project Management, Social Development and Leadership. She is the former President of the Public Relations Institute of Southern Africa and has also worked as a part-time lecturer and trainer in Public Relations and Social Development. She has interfaced with a variety of organisations on integration of socio-economic imperatives into business strategy and facilitated skills enhancement programmes through conference presentations and in-house training. She is currently the Senior Vice President and Head of Stakeholder Relations at Sibanye Stillwater.

Ruth Crowell
LBMA Chief Executive and Executive Director of the LBMA Board

Ruth was appointed Chief Executive of the LBMA in January 2014. She is responsible for the success and strategic development of the LBMA, in partnership with the Chairman and the Board. She is also responsible for maintaining accountability to and the quality of, the Association’s Membership and Good Delivery Refiners as well as representing the interests of the Association in relation to regulators, investors, media and international precious metals markets. She was also responsible for the Association’s work on supply chain due diligence, with particular regard to the creation and implementation of the LBMA’s Responsible Sourcing Programme.

Ruth continues to serve as Vice Chair of the OECD Multi-Stakeholder Governance Group for Responsible Minerals, and is a Non-Executive Director for Wilton Park and a Trustee for Human Rights at Sea.

Erin Satterthwaite
Vice President Corporate Affairs & Communications

Erin Satterthwaite has a 20-year track record of leadership in communications, corporate affairs and community investment. She joined Impala Canada early in 2019 to enhance awareness of the Company and palladium itself within the industry, investor community and broader public. Prior to joining Impala Canada, Erin led Communications and Community Investment for Vale Canada and Vale’s Base Metals business globally for more than a decade, managing multiple feedback channels to gather actionable insights. Previously, Erin developed corporate partnerships for SickKids Foundation, managed entrepreneurial coaching projects for The Strategic Coach and marketed top brands at Cossette, one of Canada’s largest advertising agencies. She holds an Honours Bachelor of Science from the University of Western Ontario.

Michelle Taylor
Chief Operating Officer of the Tharisa Group

Michelle Taylor joined Tharisa in 2008 and has been integrally involved in the group’s development. As the Chief Operating Officer of the Tharisa Group, Michelle is responsible for all of the group’s operations including the mining, processing, marketing and logistics aspects of the business. Tharisa is a stable co-producer of both PGM’s and chrome concentrates. Prior to joining Tharisa, Michelle was a partner and head of corporate governance at Routledge Modise Inc. (later Eversheds South Africa) from 1999 to 2008, and has advised a number of listed mining and technology companies.
