Gerald Group joins ‘The Women in PGMs’ network as Global Sponsor to bring women together in the platinum group metals value chain
London, 3 August 2022 – Gerald Group (“Gerald” / the Group”), the largest independent and employee-owned global metals merchant is delighted to join forces as a Global Sponsor with The Women in PGMs (WiPGMs), a global network for women to connect, discuss, debate, mentor, inspire and succeed across all aspects of the platinum group metals value chain, and to play a role in growing the PGM industry. Zhuoying Jing, Gerald’s Global Head of Precious Metals is a member of WiPGMs’ Board to assist in steering the global network, and its establishment and development in Asia. As the network expands its chapters in Asia, Europe and the U.S., its goal is to bring greater attention to the under representation of women in the sector. WiPGMs helps corporates and women looking to enrich and grow the platinum group metals industry through focused insights, mentoring, networking and developing female talent. Patricia Nikolopoulos, Gerald Group’s Chief Financial Officer and a member of the Group’s Board of Directors, said, “As we celebrate the Group’s sixtieth year of successful metals trading, we believe that a diverse and talented organisation is essential to our continued success and growth.
While there are more women working in the metals value chain today, we recognise that there is still more to be done, and we look forward to working with WiPGMs and other sponsors to raise awareness and to help attract more female talent to our industry.” Gerald Group has forty percent women in its commodity trading business and women comprise forty-five percent of the Group’s management. Wilma Swarts, Chairperson, WiPGMs commented, “Today, there are more women graduating as metallurgists, geologists, scientists and financiers. In addition, an apprentice or office junior with interest and determination to learn ‘on the job’ can also advance their career across a range of functions in the metals value chain. At WiPGMs, we have set out to connect, recognise and grow these talented individuals through active engagement.” WiPGMs is governed by a team of dedicated and committed women with experience across various segments and disciplines within the platinum group metals industry. The global network has over eighty members participating either as speaker at its events, other related events or as a mentor to help and guide upcoming and young talent.
